artist statement
Each piece I create begins with white or black fabric on which I then paint, print, stamp, or write my own marks. I love the tactile attraction and the enormous quality of cloth; the quality of raw edges and hanging threads; the way painted and dyed fabric changes character; the flexibility to surface design. These qualities continue to challenge and inspire me.
Every process and every technique that I use contributes to the content of my work. I’m drawn to minimalism and use a “less is more” approach to design and color.
After I had been working with vibrant colors for many years, I finally discovered what really makes my heart sing: neutral colors, different shades of white, gray and black, but also soft shades of plummy red, green and yellow. I often use strong accent colors, such as red.
These are the colors I am surrounded with directly and every day: clothing, furniture, home decor … and yes, also the gray cats ;-). These colors not only have a physical and emotional effect, but really influence my color perception and the way I use color in my art.
