My art reflects my life. This especially applies to the new series I am working on.
Every family has its history. Parts of it are proudly passed down through generations, other things are deliberately kept silent.
For 47 years I was more or less part of my family by marriage, whose lifestyle was so different from that of my family. Demands were made on me that I could not fulfill and did not want to fulfill. Nevertheless, little by little, stories came to light that were actually kept quiet about. When my father-in-law was the last to die in 2020, we began peeling away layer after layer of a seemingly perfect family, a seemingly perfect life. What was left was anything but perfect.
In this series, I try to process all of this.
